Cabot, John. Born in 1450. Cabot was originally a Venetian ship pilot. Settled in Bristol about 1472. Obtained letters of authorization from Henry VII to discover unknown lands. Sailed with his sons in 1497, and sighted the coast of Newfoundland, or Labrador, and Florida. Died about 1498.
