Cimabue, Giovani. Born in 1240. Italian artist, one of the restorers of the art of painting in Italy, which had fallen into neglect during the barbarism of the dark ages. The exhibition of his table of "The Virgin" for the Rucellai Chapel in Santa Maria Novella was the occasion of a public festival. Except the "Madonna," little of Cimabue's work remains. Died 1302.
