Cornell, Ezra. An American philanthropist. Born in 1807, Westchester Landing, NY. He accumulated a large fortune and is best known as the founder of Cornell University. He began life as a mechanic and miller, and subsequently became a contractor for the erection of telegraph lines. Died 1874.
