Bichat (be'sha), Marie Francois Xavier. Born in 1771. Physiologist and anatomist, was adopted by Desault, whose works he edited, and after his death devoted himself to research in anatomy and surgery with such incessant industry as to undermine his constitution. He left numerous works of the highest value. Died 1802.
