Baldwin I. Son of Baldwin VIII, Count of Flanders. Born 1171. Succeeded his father in 1195. Joined the Crusade; he led the successful attack on Constantinople, and was crowned first Latin emperor in 1204. Defeated and captured by the Bulgarians in 1205. Died 1206.
