Aurungzebe (aw-rung-ze'-be), Emperor of Hindustan, known as the Great Mogul, was born in 1618. The third son of Shah Jehan, he affected devotion in early life but subsequently, at the call of ambition, he deposed his father and put to death his two brothers and nephew. As emperor, his career was brilliant. He conquered Golconda, Visapour, and Bengal. His sons disturbed his latter days by attempting to depose him. He died in 1707.
