Abraham (a'bra-ham), the progenitor of the Hebrew nation, descendant of Shem, born about 1996 B.C., in Mesopotamia. Died at the age of 175 years, and was buried in the Cave of Machpelah. Isaac and Ishmael were his sons by Sarah and Hagar, the latter being a slave.
